Capital Credits

Members receiving Capital Credits

Cooperative Membership has its REWARDS

Over $181 million refunded to Members since 1979!

Membership at HTC means ownership.

HTC operates as a nonprofit cooperative, so profits earned are allocated back to members in the form of Capital Credits. Therefore, as your cooperative enjoys financial success you, as a member of HTC, share in the success as well. Your portion of credits is based upon the revenue generated by your services and the years you have been an HTC member. The more services you have with HTC, and the longer you’ve had those services, the greater the opportunity for earning Capital Credits.

Changes to Capital Credits Refunds

As in years past, HTC will disburse Capital Credits refunds to members either in the form of a check or bill credit.

However, beginning with this year’s disbursement in mid-August, the amount for check refunds versus bill credits has been adjusted from $50.01 to $100.01. This change has been implemented to benefit to our members and saves both the Cooperative and its members thousands of dollars in mailing and processing costs.

How are Capital Credits issued?

If your refund is more than $100.01, a check will be mailed to the address on file.

If your refund is less than or equal to $100, you will see the appropriate amount credited on your HTC bill by mid-September in lieu of receiving a check. The refund will be identified as “Capital Credit Refund” on the bill. HTC implemented this procedure to provide an immediate benefit to our members and saves both the Cooperative and its members thousands of dollars in mailing and processing costs.

Where is my Capital Credit Refund?

If your Capital Credit Refund is $100.01 or more, you will receive a check. If it is $100 or less it will be applied to your bill.

What is a Capital Credit Allocation?

As a Cooperative, profits earned are returned to our members as Capital Credit Allocations.

Do the Capital Credit Allocation amounts impact my bill?

No. The information listed is to notify members of their portion of the Capital Credit Allocation.

When are Capital Credit Allocations disbursed?

The HTC Board of Directors review the Cooperative’s financial standing yearly and when possible, they vote to retire Capital Credits and reward members.

What do I need to do if my Member information is not correct?

If you have questions or need to make changes, you can contact a Member Relations Associate at one of our retail locations or by phone at 843-365-2154.

What is the difference between the Allocation and Refund?

Allocations are based on the amount of services a member utilized the previous fiscal year. This annual allocation amount is added to your overall membership capital credits balance, which reflects all the years in which you had service with HTC.

Refunds occur when your Board of Directors approve a capital credits retirement. This involves refunding a portion of your overall membership capital credits balance. The rotation of these funds over time allows the cooperative to build and maintain networks, rights of way and other needs to ensure reliable service. It also reduces the need for loans, which keep costs down for members while still allowing for refunds to HTC members.

Any Capital Credits earned while an HTC member belongs to them, even after discontinuing services. HTC makes every effort to ensure that all refunds are returned. Non-active members will have their refund checks mailed to the last address on file.  If HTC is unable to issue the refunds, additional steps may be necessary:
