2009 Recycling Program Kicks-Off
March 30, 2009

HTC Directory and Cell Phone Recycling Program, Now through May 1, 2009

HTC invites schools and businesses to join in annual directory and cell phone recycling effort to benefit education.

HTC is partnering with Wendy’s, Coastal Grand Mall and the Horry County Solid Waste Authority in the 2009 recycling program. The program will take place Wednesday, April 1 and last through Friday, May 1, 2009. The goal is for each participating school to recycle at least 2,009 phone books. In addition, we will continue the cell phone recycling campaign in conjunction with the directory-recycling program.

During this time, participating schools and area citizens in Horry and Georgetown counties will be encouraged to recycle old HTC and/or other phone books. In return, schools receive 15 cents for each directory recycled on their behalf. For each old cell phone that is delivered to any HTC branch office location, HTC will donate a minimum of $1.00 per phone all the way up to $39 per phone depending on the model phone recycled to the Horry County Schools’ fund for homeless students. HTC will accept all makes and models of phones as well as phones from other carriers.
The person donating a directory or old cell phone will receive a coupon good for a FREE 12 OZ. FROSTY from Wendy’s® and buy one, get one free coupons from Jungle Fun, Marble Slab and Auntie Anne’s at Coastal Grand Mall! Jungle Fun is offering a Buy one $5 game card and get one $5 game card for FREE. Auntie Anne’s has two offers: 1) Buy one pretzel and get one pretzel for FREE, 2) Buy any pepperoni pretzel or pepperoni pretzel pocket and get a medium soda for FREE. And, Marble Slab is offering a Buy one tasty creation original and get one tasty creation original for FREE. Please note that the Jungle Fun, Auntie Anne’s and Marble Slab offers are available at Coastal Grand Mall only.

There is no limit to the number of coupons a person can collect, so 20 recycled directories = 20 Wendy’s coupons and Coastal Grand Mall coupons. In addition, the top three schools that recycle the most phone books will receive prizes for the top participating classes including:

Wendy’s FREE Kid’s Meals and prizes for the teachers of those schools!

Wendy’s and Coastal Grand Mall coupons will be distributed at all branch office locations for individuals recycling directories and cell phones. Please note that all Wendy’s coupons for schools will be distributed in May at the end of the campaign. There will be a maximum of five Wendy’s coupons given per child in each school. We made this change two years ago in order to equitably distribute the coupons to all participants. All Coastal Grand Mall coupons will be distributed to schools throughout the campaign as they deliver to our Conway office.

The Horry County Solid Waste Authority will provide a large recycling bin at our Conway business office. For the other branch offices, one small gray bin will be placed in the lobbies for customers recycling 25 phone books or less. A receptionist or contact person will record the number of directories deposited in the school's name during each visit throughout the campaign.

Small cardboard boxes in each branch office lobby are for customers who wish to recycle their old cell phones. A receptionist or contact person will document the number of cell phones by the Horry County Schools’ fund for Homeless Students line item. After all directory totals are recorded, HTC will deliver a check to the Superintendent's office with instructions regarding the amount of money each school is entitled to receive for participating.
