HTC: No Fault in Sherriff's Outage
October 23, 2009
HTC Not Responsible for Outage with Georgetown Sherriff's Office
Please note that the phone service outage at the Georgetown Sherriff’s Office is not due to any technical issue with HTC contrary to earlier reports. Georgetown Officials acknowledged shortly after the report that HTC is not responsible. The telephone lines were out of order due to a non-technical issue, and HTC is assisting with the repair.
“The service to the Sherriff’s Department is being routed over a city owned fiber optic network. That fiber network has been damaged and HTC was called in to repair the damage,” said Scott Everett, HTC Chief Executive-Plant Operations. “HTC is under contract with the City of Georgetown to repair the fiber. The outage is unrelated to any services provided by HTC to the County. HTC crews are currently on site assessing and repairing the damage.”
All parties involved emphasize that 911 service in Georgetown County is not affected by this interruption of service. UPDATE: Service has been temporarily restored and crews continue to work on a permanent solution.
