HTC Retiree Inducted Into Hall of Fame

HTC retired employee, William Drew, was recently inducted into the SC Telephone Hall of Fame.
Retired HTC employee, William H. Drew, was recently inducted into the South Carolina Telephone Hall of Fame for his accomplishments and contributions to the industry and HTC. This is one of the South Carolina Telephone Association’s (SCTA) most prestigious awards given each year at the SCTA Annual Meeting in April. Nominations were submitted to the SCTA’s awards committee by Cooperatives across the state, and only one nominee is selected each year.
Mr. Drew was nominated by HTC Chief Executive-Human Resources, Glenda Page. “For 35 years, William Drew represented HTC in every aspect of his life. He believed in the cooperative philosophy and the development of the industry,” said Mrs. Page. William Drew’s career began with HTC in 1956 as a billing clerk and he continued in other positions as an accounting clerk. In 1963, he was appointed to office manager, a position he held for 29 years.
“While William retired in 1992, he still continues to provide guidance and direction to HTC when needed. He served on the Horry Telephone Long Distance Board after retirement and he continues to assist with the Annual Meeting of the members as well as assisting with proxy registration. William has been an exemplary retiree, always willing to be of assistance in any way needed,” continued Page.
Throughout his years of service, William Drew represented both the South Carolina Telephone Association and HTC on various telecommunications issues and needs before the South Carolina Public Service Commission.
“It was an honor to receive such an outstanding award for my service to HTC,” said Mr. Drew. “The years that I worked at HTC and served on various committees for the National and State Telephone Association are some of the best and most treasured years of my life. It was an honor to be nominated, and I was very grateful to be inducted.”
