HTC’s Huggins Elected Secretary-Treasurer of NTCA National Board of Directors

Conway, SC, April 20, 2009 – The National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) has announced that Curley P. Huggins, Chief Executive Officer of Horry Telephone Cooperative (HTC) was elected secretary-treasurer of NTCA’s national board of directors, at its Annual Meeting held in February.

“Curley’s extensive telecom experience is a tremendous asset to NTCA’s board, and I welcome the insight he has gained through nearly 40 years in the industry,” said NTCA Chief Executive Officer Michael E. Brunner. “I thank him for his commitment and am confident his experience and dedication will benefit the entire association.”


Huggins has a long history of involvement with NTCA having served on the NTCA Industry Committee and as a Trustee of the Retirement & Security Program and Savings Plan Trust Committee since 1987. He was elected to the NTCA Board of Directors as the Region 2 Director in February of 2008.

Since joining HTC in 1972 he has held various positions in accounting, outside plant, and engineering. He served as central office engineer and assistant manager before becoming Chief Executive officer in 1987.

A firm believer in cooperatives and independent telephone companies working together, Huggins serves on numerous boards promoting technology in rural South Carolina. He currently serves on the boards of Palmetto MobileNet, PalmettoNet, Spirit Telecom, and the South Carolina Telephone Association (SCTA).

Locally, Huggins is a past board member of the Conway Chamber of Commerce, where he served as treasurer and as chairman of the education committee. He has also served on Horry County’s Technical Education Committee as well as the engineering advisory board of Horry Georgetown Technical College.
