1. Sometimes late at night I try to access or request Delivery from HTC Barracuda Email Protection but nothing happens, what should I do?
Several times a month late at night, HTC Barracuda Email Protection undergoes regular maintenance, keeping the system up-to-date on the latest SPAM and phishing techniques. During this maintenance some functions may not occur as usual. If this happens to you, simply log off your HTC Barracuda account and re-log on. That way you will probably log onto a different Barracuda connection where maintenance either has already occurred or is scheduled for later. If you continue to experience difficulty with Barracuda the next day, please contact our Technical Support Staff.

2. What do I have to do to get an HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account?
Nothing. All HTC SCCoast.net email customers will automatically be protected by HTC Barracuda Spam Firewall. The first time this technology determines that some of your incoming emails may be spam, it will establish an HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account where those emails will be quarantined.

3. Is there a charge for the HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account?
No. All HTC SCCoast.net email customers will receive this protection and the quarantine account for FREE.

4. How will I know if my spam has been quarantined?
You will receive an email from HTC Barracuda Spam Firewall. This email will include a link to your account where you can view the quarantined spam.

5. How frequently will I be notified my spam has been quarantined?
The Notification Interval default is set at Weekly. You can change this interval to Daily or Never in the Quarantine Settings on the "PREFERENCES" tab in your HTC Barracuda Email Protection account.

6. How long will my spam be quarantined?
15 days. Quarantined emails are automatically deleted after 15 days.

7. What if I want to receive my notifications at a different email address?
You can specify a different Notification Address in the Quarantine Settings on the "PREFERENCES" tab where you can receive the notification emails from HTC Barracuda Spam Firewall. This will allow you to receive notifications for multiple SCCoast.net accounts in one email box.

8. Can anyone else see my quarantined emails?
Your HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account is password protected.

9. What do I do if I can't remember my Password?
There are two ways to access your account if you forget your password.

  • The notification email from HTC Barracuda Email Protection includes a link to access your account without a password.
  • If you forget your password during Login you can provide your Username email address and click "Create New Password" and the link and a new password will immediately be sent to your email notification account.

10. Is my HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account Password the same as my SCCoast.net Username Password?
No. However you can change your HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account Password to be the same as your SCCoast.net Username Password in the Password section of your account's "PREFERENCES".

11. What do I do if I want to receive emails from an address that has been quarantined?
You can select "Whitelist" while in your Quarantine Inbox. This will prevent emails from that email address from being quarantined in the future.

12. Do I need to add all the addresses in my Address Book to the Whitelist?
No. Only emails that are determined to be spam will be quarantined. Emails from those in your Address Book will most likely not have qualities of spam (such as being part of a large distribution from non-spam addresses).

13. How do I stop receiving emails from an individual?
HTC Barracuda Email Protection will allow you to block emails from addresses on your Blacklist. You can add individual email addresses to your "Blacklist" while in the "Whitelist/Blacklist" in the "PREFERENCES" tab.

14. What do I do if I don't want spam protection?
You can disable the quarantine feature by setting your Quarantine Score to 10 in the "Spam Settings" in the "PREFERENCES" tab. Then you will continue to receive all spam.

15. What do I do if I am receiving too much spam?
You can decrease the Quarantine Score in the Spam Settings in the PREFERENCES tab and you will receive less spam. The lower the Quarantine Score, the less spam gets to your SCCoast.net email account. Unfortunately, there is no proven technology that will completely eliminate all Spam.

16. What do I do if I am expecting an email from someone but it isn't being delivered or quarantined?
Add the email address to the "Whitelist" in the"Whitelist/Blacklist" in the "PREFERENCES" tab and ask the email sender to send the message again as the emails might be blocked. Another option would be to increase your "Block Score" in the "Spam Settings" in the "PREFERENCES" tab if this is happening with more than one email address.

17. How often should I delete my quarantined emails?
Quarantined emails are automatically deleted after 15 days so there is no need to delete if you do not want to.

18. Can I use PC-cillin or other security software with my HTC Barracuda Email Protection Account?
Yes. PC-cillin has Bayesian Filtering spam protection which actually learns those emails you consider spam. By using PC-cillin and HTC Barracuda Email Protection you will eliminate even more spam than if you only use HTC Barracuda Spam Firewall. PC-cillin is another FREE benefit provided to HTC Internet customers.

19. What are the default scores?
HTC has established System Defaults that have been determined to reduce the majority of your Spam without blocking valid emails. If you are satisfied with the initial results of Barracuda, we recommend not making any changes to the System Default Spam Settings. No two scores should be the same.
